Moving Coordination

STAGE 1: NEEDS ASSESSMENT
  • Assess with client the scope of the project: Look at the space, determine what needs to be done, and tailor a plan-of-action specific to individual client needs
  • Rate:
STAGE 2: PRE-MOVE RESEARCH
  • Research and interview movers (at least three different companies)
  • Plan for cable, phones, internet accessibility, and utilities in new home
  • Send out change of address letters and update credit card companies, etc., with new contact information
  • Research and make arrangements for appraisals, sale, and donations of items client no longer wants
  • Coordinate moving day logistics regarding parking for moving truck, reserving of elevator, insurance coverage, etc.
  • Coordinate the sending out of moving announcements
  • (usually 2-3 days, or 16-24 hours)
STAGE 3: PRE-MOVE PREPARATION
  • Organize rooms in home or personal belongings before packing them (i.e., files, paperwork, clothes, toiletries, etc.) if necessary
  • Tag items for new home, storage, trash, tag sale
  • Organize tag sale, if requested
  • Plan where items will go in new home
  • (plan at least 1-1.5 days per room, or 8-12 hours per room)
STAGE 4: MOVING DAY*

MORNING
  • Oversee movers and supervise packing (in order for client’s belongings to be covered by insurance, all items must be packed by movers)
  • Act as owner’s liaison with movers and other vendors/delivery people, troubleshoot issues as they arise
  • Supplement packing inventory with additional information that facilitates unpacking
  • Project Coordinator and assistant (we’ll probably assign two) for at least 5 hours
AFTERNOON
  • Oversee unloading of truck and check inventory to be sure all boxes are delivered
  • Route boxes to appropriate rooms
  • Unpack boxes and organize items into closets, cabinets, and storage units
  • Guide client in signing of invoice and claims for any damage
  • Break down boxes and prepare for garbage pick up –leave with 80% of garbage
